About The Project
The NE Skills Engine has been created to provide North East businesses with the skills they need to become more successful and support their growth.
Colleges in the region recognise the need to provide a variety of responsive solutions that not only address the skills shortage across a variety of sectors, but also increases the number of individuals in the area with Level 4 qualifications or above, making them more employable for businesses.
The pace of change in technology means that businesses have found many traditional qualifications fail to adapt quickly enough to their developing needs. By developing courses that are driven by employers, and delivered through the skills and resources of the region’s colleges, we aim to increase productivity and prepare the North East to become a key participant in the Northern Powerhouse.
Initially the project is focusing on 6 key sectors; Construction, Engineering & Manufacturing, Digital, Innovation, Leadership & Management and Subsea. However, if you are outside of these industries but would like to discuss your skills needs we’d love to talk to you.
How it works
You register your interest and tell us what specific skills and areas you want training for Groups of businesses with similar interests talk to the colleges to reach agreement on what should be, could be, and would like to be included in a course.
The individual colleges prepare bids and proposals for the courses which they then pitch to the consortium of businesses.
Once the successful college has been chosen the finer details of dates, prices, etc., are finalised.
The courses developed are also offered to learners outside of these businesses to help them improve their skills and therefore their employability levels.
