Construction HNC/HND at Gateshead College
Gateshead College is working in partnership with Plan BEE, a consortium of companies in the building services sector including Ryder Architecture, Faulkner Browns, Surgo and Esh Group, and with Teesside University to develop a customised higher level skills pathway into the industry.
The consortium has identified a skills gap – too many architecture graduates are ill equipped for the profession, aren’t work ready and do not have the knowledge they need about the broader aspects of construction.
The college and the Consortium aim to develop a professional, technical HNC/HND programme which has a multi-disciplinary emphasis leading to multiple pathways into the industry including a BEng. The collaborative programme, which will be co-designed by employers and the college, will better prepare students to work on complex infrastructure projects blending hands on experience with academic learning leading to better trained, highly qualified professionals who are work ready.
The new programme will offer those who want to work in the industry an alternative which is broader than that currently on offer, prepares them for a more diverse career path and gives them great exposure to the industry.
Consortium of employers brief Gateshead College identifying their key skills issues and vision.
